How to Install Microsoft Access 32 Bit Runtime : Ham Radio Deluxe Customer Support.

OK, here is my dilemma I have an Access application which I distribute to my users in compiled form. I have compiled my application with Access 64 bit successfully. So far, so good They all have some form of office 32 bit or 64 bit. So, I downloaded the free 64 bit Access Runtime module so that I could install it on their computers and then run my application.
On the first machine I tried to install the Runtime module on, it wouldn't let me because it said something about mixing 32 bit vs 64 bit Office. So, now I am totally confused. Can I keep my app at 64 bit and run it on a machine with Office 32 bit if I install somehow the 64 bit Runtime?

So you can get into conditional compilation directives in your VBA code So you as the developer needs both. This is where virtual machines VMs come in handy! Was this reply helpful? That's another solution! For sure, if you have any say in their setup, get them to switch and standardize things to simplify your life! A great solution indeed. Pineault, I have a further question Since I am distributing the Access Runtime module as part of my installation, can my users have a version of Office that does not include Access and have it in the 32 bit flavor? I understand you cannot mix bitnesses within Access, but what about say Excel 32 bit with Access Runtime 64 bit?

If one of my users had a 64 bit version of Office, I could successfully install a 32 bit version of Access Runtime and the app would work just fine. However, if I had a user with a 32 bit version of Office and the 32 bit Access Runtime module was installed, they couldn't upgrade to 64 bit Office without uninstalling 32 bit Runtime.
So the sequence in which the mixed bitnesses are installed matters. I am not suggesting that bitnesses get mixed intentionally, I am only lamenting the fact that all my 32 bit Office users need to uninstall the 32 bit Runtime, upgrade Office to 64 bit, then install the 64 bit Runtime and the new version of my app. Seems to me that MS could have alleviated all this headache?
